Stunning traditional shepherd hut in field with sheeps
About This Experience
Josephine is a fully insulated, hand painted traditional shepherd’s hut that’s almost off-grid, offering a cozy, unplugged escape. Inside, you’ll find a fixed double bed, two comfortable dining seats and table, windows on every side and a stable door. Lighting comes from candles and fairy lights powered by a power bank. The wood-burning stove not only warms the hut but also features a cooking plate for simple meals. We provide linen, towels, first basket of dry briquettes and kindling, everything you need for cooking off grid. (ie no magimix but a good whisk and wooden spoons) Just steps away in a separate shed, is a Joolca gas shower, washing up sink, gas hob, and eco-friendly compost toilet. For charging needs, power points are available in a nearby farm shed. Relax outdoors on the large picnic table or fire up the kadai barbecue while watching stunning sunsets. The shores of Loch Awe are a 10-minute amble or 2-minute drive across the farm—perfect for wild swimming, and we welcome guests who wish to bring their kayaks and paddleboards. Gaze at the ancient crannog as you cook on the home made stone bbq there Josephine’s field is shared with friendly sheep, and you may spot Highland cattle, red deer, otters, pine martens, barn owls, and ospreys and eagles in the surrounding fields and up the hills. The lambs like to lie under Josephine Night skies here are spectacular for stargazing as this is an area of zero light pollution. Don't forget waterproof boots for exploring the beautiful but sometimes boggy hills and fields and for crossing burns. This is a truly unique retreat for nature lovers seeking peace, adventure, and unforgettable views. Please note we don’t allow dogs due to sheep in the immediate surrounding field. Thank you for your understanding. We live on the farm and are usually available in person to chat about what to do where to go what to see. There is a book with ideas in Josephine as well as games, playing card and plenty books to read. Occasionally we are out of signal or driving children about. However 5G is amazing so we are rarely without a signal for long. We are 1.5 hours from Glasgow airport and 4 miles from Dalmally train station. There are local shops and good pub in Lochawe village and also in Dalmally, bigger ones in Inveraray (12 min drive) and everything in Oban including a distillery and ferries to the islands (40 min drive). We send out the W3W reference and directions to Josephine two days before you arrive. Also where we hide the key If there is anything we haven’t covered here please don’t hesitate to ask. With over 100 years of accumulated knowledge we can answer most things. Looking forward to meeting you Moran taing / thank you
