The Birdhide - cosy off grid Hideaway on the shores of Loch Awe

Nestled in a breathtakingly beautiful setting, this cosy retreat features a comfortable single bed, a wood-burning stove for warmth and ambiance, and everything you need for a serene escape. Wake up to birdsong, enjoy a hot cup of tea from the whistling kettle and a refreshing wild swim (or a hot shower!) Off grid living - the ultimate digital detox. Nestled on the tranquil shore of Loch Awe and surrounded by a working farm, The Bird Hide offers a unique off-grid experience. Here, you’ll be embraced by nature, at certain times of the year sharing the peaceful landscape with cattle and sheep grazing nearby. Sustainable Comfort & Natural Charm Crafted from 45mm logs milled from slow-grown, sustainably sourced Northern Spruce timber, The Bird Hide features warm tongue and groove walls and three double-glazed windows framing breathtaking views of the loch from every angle. There are twinkling fairy lights powered by a solar-charged power bank, complemented by candlelit lanterns for nights. You’ll find a gas shower in another hut 50m from the cabin, complete with a gas ring for cooking and a washing up area. This hut is shared with one other property. You have your own private eco compost toilet 15m from the Bird Hide. Fresh drinking water is provided in 5-litre bottles, with 24/7 refill access available at the farm, as well as electric sockets if required and extra frozen packs for the Yeti coolbox. Slip on your walking boots to explore nature at its most untouched in the surrounding hills. Cook either on the woodburner’s stovetop, the kadai-style barbecue beside the hut or the gas ring in the shed alongside. There is a table in the Birdhide and also your own personal table outside. Starry Nights & Wild Swimming Far from city lights, this pollution-free zone offers spectacular, unforgettable starry skies. And for the adventurous, wild swimming in the pristine loch is refreshing and accessible year-round. Parking is easy and secure right by The Bird Hide inside a fenced area. For your safety, if there are cattle or sheep in the field please avoid walking amongst them, especially those with young; the field is 2 miles long and offers plenty of space to explore safely. Please note: Dogs / other pets are not permitted on the property, as it’s an active working farm and we prioritize everyone’s safety. We live on the farm with our family. We leave you to enjoy your visit but we are around and available on the farm to give assistance or advice. You will have our telephone number once your booking is confirmed and we are very rarely out of signal for long. We want your stay to be as enjoyable as possible so if there is anything we can do to help, please just ask. We know the area very well and are happy to share tips on places to visit, eat out etc. The track from the main road down to the Bird Hide is a rough farm track and not suitable for very low cars. There is ample parking at the farmhouse which is a 10 minute walk away if you prefer to leave your car there. We will give you directions and the what3words reference to the Bird Hide 2 days before you arrive and information on where to locate the key. We provide all fresh bed linen and towels. To get you started, you'll find a basket of wood and kindling ready for the woodturning stove. For extra fires, we recommend dried sawdust logs or peat slabs available at local garages or up at the farm—these work best to keep your cozy fire going. Arriving by car is essential, although some guests do arrive by bicycle and others by boat which they leave tied to our pier below the Birdhide for the duration of their stay. You are welcome to bring your own kayak or paddle boards. Argyll is the most beautiful place in the world and the views from the Bird Hide are out of this world and change all the time, but please bear in mind there are days it rains, days it is windy, days where there are midges and days the sun can burn you very easily. Please be prepared for all 4 in a day. In winter the nights draw in early - in summer it hardly gets dark at all.
