Regenerative Farm Safari Walk
About This Experience
A farm walk starts with an introduction to regenerative farming and cattle whispering, depending on your choice of safari. Philip provides a drink and facilities at the start. A walk then takes you up the hill to the start of the safari, looking at the changes being made to regenerate the landscape. The first field has simply stunning views, East to Wellington, South over Dartmoor in the distance, Dunkery Beacon and Haddon Hill towards the North. Philip will then show you the different hedge styles, and techniques used to lay hedges and current progression which allows them to grow up in height. Given recent summer weather, tree height is now very important for a south facing farm: it prevents drying out and preserves moisture in the summer and increases soil organic matter. The trees in turn protect cattle during wind, rain or snow events but also shade in the summer. The walk will take you to a project area exploring the reintroduction of trees in 3 small copse in a large, exposed pasture. You will have the opportunity to make your own gesture to help increase the organic matter of that field, a small but important step to return the land to what it might have been like centuries ago. If your option is the cattle whispering, Philip will show you how this technique he has pioneered in the UK is providing a quiet and harmonious methodology to move cattle around the farm. A compost loo is available at the halfway mark and Philip will also try to adjust for various physical abilities. Philip speaks fluent French and will manage some German.
