Tucked away on our beef and sheep farm on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, award-winning Lapwing Shepherd Hut offers an adults-only escape where nature takes centre stage. Surrounded by rolling farmland, wildlife-rich grasslands and some of the darkest skies in England, Lapwing is the perfect place to slow down, switch off and reconnect with the countryside. New Sheepfold Farm has been farmed by the Day family since 1989. Today, alongside our livestock enterprise, we welcome guests who want to experience the beauty, peace and rhythm of life on a working farm. This is not a holiday park. Lapwing is one of four shepherd huts that each sit in its own private space with uninterrupted views across the farm and towards the North York Moors. You will wake to birdsong, watch hares crossing the fields, and if you’re lucky, spot the barn owl feeding at dawn or dusk. Our farm is home to pedigree Beef Shorthorn cattle, sheep, Royal Golden Guernsey goats and an abundance of wildlife. We are passionate about farming in a way that supports biodiversity and the landscape around us. One of our greatest prides is our lapwing population, which inspired the name of this hut. Every spring these remarkable birds return to nest on the farm, their distinctive calls echoing across the fields.
