Charming cosy farm cottage on Loch Awe

New experience 5 nights Up to 4 guests Achlian Farm · Dalmally, Argyll Show on map

About This Experience

Nestled above the shimmering waters of Loch Awe, Achlian Cottage is a peaceful retreat on a traditional working hill farm with breathtaking loch and mountain views. A burn (stream) runs through the private garden. Elegantly decorated this 18th century stone cottage with attached cattle byre is warm and welcoming - the byre is now the sitting room. Achlian Farm was on Series 1 of This Farming Life The cottage has a chili penguin woodburner with integrated pizza warmer, fully equipped kitchen, a separate dining room and a sitting room with a desk for remote working. ( high speed fibre broadband) The cottage is used by our family too so expect some hand painted and antique pieces of furniture rather than IKEA, paintings by local artists on the walls and the odd missing piece in the jigsaws (please tell us). There is a backgammon board painted on the table outside and a ping pong table and darts board in the wool shed. The washing machine is in a farm laundry shed opposite the cottage (4 steps and you are there!) which may also have lamb feeding equipment in it at times and the tumble dryer is in the wool shed. Guests are very welcome to bring their own kayaks or SUPs to launch from the pier below. For families the shore line is a natural playground, skimming stones, building stone bbqs, paddling, catching trout. There is good pike and trout fishing in the loch and, by separate arrangement, salmon rods on the Awe and red deer stalking available. You may hear the occasional farm vehicle, dog, sheep or cow. You may see red deer, roe deer, eagles, ospreys, kites, pine martens, otters, badgers. We are 1.5 hours from Glasgow airport, 4 miles from Dalmally station. There are village shops and pub in Lochawe village (4 miles) and Dalmally, bigger in Inveraray plus also the Jail and Castle (12miles) and everything in Oban including a distillery and ferries to the islands. Be prepared for all seasons in a day, amazing walking in the hills, fantastic wild swimming from the pier to an ancient crannog 80m off shore, and of course sheep and highland cattle in various fields at various times of the year. If we have missed something here and you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. We have over 100 years of knowledge of the area and are here to help you experience the authentic rural beauty and rich history of Argyll. We look forward to meeting you.
