Romantic Eco Hideaway with Breathtaking Loch Views

The Bolthole is a cosy and comfortable eco cabin with utterly spellbinding views down Loch Awe. It is a well equipped cabin which sleeps 2 in a double bed. Relax by the wood burning stove, boil a cup of tea in the whistling kettle while you watch the birds or walk 80m to the loch and swim out to the ancient crannog 60m off shore - or read in a hammock tied to the pier. While on incredible clear sky nights you can lie and simply gaze at the stars and enjoy the silence. The Bolthole sits in a field on a working farm that at certain times of the year has sheep or highland cattle in it too. It has solid tongue and grove sustainable grown northern spruce walls, 3 double glazed windows and a glass door facing the loch in all directions. There is a second hut right alongside with a compost loo and a third hut 40m away with a gas shower one end and washing up facilities and gas ring in the other. There is no mains electricity to the site. There is a power bank for the fairy lights and to charge phones in the Bolthole and sockets available 24/7 in the farm shed 10 min walk away - along with a ping pong table, fridge freezer and tumble dryer. Clean drinking water is provided in sealed bottles and these can be refilled at the farm as you need. There is a Yeti cool box in the Bolthole and spare frozen packs in the freezer should you need them. Cooking is done either on the woodburner, the gas ring or on the kadai at the Bolthole. There is a large outdoor dining table and also a table and benches by the pier beside a homemade stone bbq. We supply a starter basket of dried wood briquettes and kindling ( you can purchase more on the farm ) You are very welcome to bring your kayaks and SUPs. Currently we can’t rent out our boat at the pier due to the levels of insurance required There are plenty books, playing cards, games in the Bolthole as well as all the utensils needed for cooking Parking is 20m from Bolthole although if there are cattle in the field we have a fenced off area a further 30m away. The Cows like admiring themselves in the wing mirrors. The track to the hut is rough. If you have a low bottomed car please park at the farmhouse and walk down the track with a wheelbarrow Dogs are not allowed at any time due to the fact it’s a working farm. We are to be found somewhere in the farm most of the time. Occasionally we are out of signal and occasionally we are away driving children about. Between 9-6 we will answer any questions we can. We have 100 years of accumulated local knowledge we love to share but we do go to bed early so only emergencies late at night please! Finally - we are 1.5 hours from glasgow airport, 3 miles from Dalmally train station, you need a car or bicycle here ! I will send a w3w reference and directions to you two days before you arrive and where I hide the key. Local shops and pub in Lochawe and Dalmally villages (5 min drive) bigger in Inveraray (15 min) everything imaginable in Oban including ferries to the islands (40 min). Welcome pack in Bolthole stuffed full of ideas for day trips, eating out, walking routes, etc Bring clothes for all seasons, even on hot sunny days you can walk into a wet peat bank on the high hills and even on cloudy days the sun burns and on damp days there can be midges. The field is full of wild bog myrtle - a main ingredient of midge repellants so rub it on your wrists. Chief of Clan Campbell wears it in his hat at the local Inveraray and Oban Games.
